SO: To Speak
Southampton Festivals introduced SO: To Speak, Southampton’s Festival of Words in 2015. It offered ten days of events and workshops involving literature, flash fiction, theatre, Spoken Word and poetry, comedy, storytelling and songwriting.
The festival highlighted the wealth of talent we have in the city, and showcased our heritage by publishing a new translation from the original manuscript of the legend of Bevis, by Lynn Forest-Hill, and a Seagulls and Spitfires, a collection of poems about our iconic plane by Southampton Laureate Matthew West.
Although created as a biannual festival, SO: To Speak came back briefly in 2016 as part of the Southampton Fringe with commissions of new poetry and a weekend of poetry, flash fiction and theatre.
SO: To Speak is planning to return in October 2017 with another ten days packed with events.
